How Easton landed Da Vinci ‘Science City’

2016-12-12_14-16-18A 500,000-gallon saltwater tank and 170,000-square-foot science center will bring sharks, a large-screen movie theater, restaurant and more to Easton, officials said Tuesday during a news conference for the proposed Da Vinci “Science City.”

The $130 million project, an expansion of the Da Vinci Science Center in west Allentown, is modeled after the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga and is being billed as the largest public aquarium in Pennsylvania, officials said.

During the unveiling at Grand Eastonian Suites Hotel, officials showed a rendering of a center that features a sleek glass front in a wave pattern with a grass roof. The Days Inn at 185 S. Third St. would be torn down to make way for the Da Vinci project.
